Human and dog bond
Kathryn and her two dogs
Kathryn and puppy Knap

From a hobby to a passion…

to the solutions for your dog!

Kathryn has 30 years of experience working with a large variety of dogs, while also training and competing with her own dogs. This is why she is a perfect choice to help you with yours!

Kathryn didn’t grow up planning to be a dog trainer, although she always loved working with the family dogs. She thought she wanted to do something with languages, travel and music (she eventually became an opera singer). But a little mixed breed dog (Meiske), adopted Kathryn and started her on the journey that eventually became her passion.

Kathryn believes strongly that training should be fun at both ends of the leash. She is committed to the Hierarchy of Procedures for Humane and Effective Practice (https://m.iaabc.org/about/lima/hierarchy/) and works to set the learning environment so that she and her students have lots of opportunity to use positive reinforcement. That means that you will enjoy training your dog and your dog will enjoy being trained. That bond you already have (or wish you had) will get stronger!

She is a graduate with honors of the prestigious San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers, acknowledged around the world as the “Harvard of Dog Training,” and a former judge for the North American Dog Agility Council and United States Dog Agility Association.

To stay current on recent research on canine behavioral learning and dog training techniques, she regularly attends seminars with industry leaders such as Suzanne Clothier, Jean Donaldson, Dr. Ian Dunbar, John Rogerson, Kay Laurence, Nicole Wilde, Sarah Stremming, and Shade Whitesel. In addition, she is a perpetual on-line student at Fenzi Dog Sports Academy (https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com) and The School of Canine Science (https://www.caninescience.online). Her interest in continuing education leads to a diverse toolbox, helping prepare her to help dogs with everything from puppy training to behavior modification!

Kathryn is also a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and an associate member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.

When Kathryn isn’t busy training other people’s dogs, she spends time with her 6 year old Working Kelpie, Knap. They love training together (yes, Knap teaches Kathryn too) to become a team in agility, nosework and herding.
